Another E3 has been and gone and it was a big year for people wanting to play games in 2015…Seriously, every good game that was shown was slapped with a super vague release date of 2015. But, dear friends, I think the wait will be worth it because the games that were shown were nothing short of amazing. So amazing, its hard to whittle it down to a top 5 list but such is the nature of this article! So without further ado, here are my top 5 games of E3 2014, ranked in order of awesomeness!
5: Rainbow Six: Siege
Rainbow Six has been curiously absent from Ubisoft’s list of games for years. There was a much talked about game called Rainbow Six: Patriots that was announced / leaked years ago, but after much silence, it seemed like it was never going to see the light of day in any form. Then, at the very end of Ubisoft’s “media briefing”, they showed off some very intriguing and super awesome multiplayer alpha footage of a new game called Rainbow Six: Siege and it got me super excited!
Roll on 2015 so we can rescue some hostages with weird hair (seriously, look at that girls hair!)
4: The Witcher 3
The Witcher 2 is the reason I own an Xbox 360. There are literally no other games on it, from an exclusivity perspective that I want to own or play. It has a super immersive world, solid gameplay, great story, and delicious graphics. Sure, its treatment of women leaves a lot to be desired, but if you can look past that, there is a lot of fun to be had in the world of The Witcher. When I heard the news that The Witcher 3 was coming to next gen and was going to be multi-platfom, I got excited. Not only would the graphics improve, but I could play it on my console of choice, the PS4. I own an Xbox One, but anything released on both will inevitably be played on the PS4.
The Witcher 3 had an impressive showing at E3 this year, showing not 1, but 2 gameplay demos that were super impressive. And on top of that, there was a cinematic story trailer released before E3 as well. We were spoiled by the lovely people at CD Projekt Red. Take a look for yourself!
First the story trailer:
Now, the first gameplay trailer that was shown at Microsoft’s media briefing:
And then another gameplay demo that was doing the rounds on the show floor:
This one has a more firm release date in 2015 and will hit shelves on February 24th worldwide and I for one, cannot wait!
3: Uncharted 4
Ok, so no actual gameplay footage was shown for this one, but there was no way I was going to keep a new Uncharted game off my top 5 list when it was announced! The footage that was shown was “captured directly from a Playstation 4″ which means that this is what the game will look like during cutscenes with only a minimal decrease in quality for actual gameplay. And when you see the trailer below, you’ll understand why that is scary to me!
Again, look for this in 2015, late 2015 I would imagine.
2: Batman: Arkham Knight
This is, first and foremost, a comic book website so I would be remiss if I left our old pal Batman off this list. Lucky for Adam, it just so happens that I am in love with all things Batman, and this game blew me away at E3. The only reason it’s number 2 is because there was one other game that managed to drop my jaw slightly further downward! But the footage they showed was amazing, the Batmobile has been seamlessly integrated into Batman’s ever expanding arsenal to the point that it feels like it has been there all along!
See the footage for yourself and be excited for (January?) 2015!
1: The Division
Like I said, there was only one game that blew me away more than Arkham Knight did and that was The Division. This game is the ultimate fantasy for me. Open world? Check. RPG elements? Check. Beautiful graphics? Check plus! Ability to ,play with or against friends? Check. It literally ticks all my boxes and judging by the gameplay footage shown at E3 this year, it looks like it plays as beautifully as it looks. See for yourself:
This was originally meant to drop in late 2014 but it was delayed to ensure quality. There are numerous sources that point to this being far from ready so I would picture this dropping in late 2015, and I am more than happy to wait since this has to be well put together and not rushed if it is going to be a success.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dragon Age is one of my favourite game series and is made by my all time favourite developer in Bioware! The reason it didnt make the list is because everything else, for the most part, is fresh and new, where as Dragon Age was announced last year and has had a steady stream of information drop about it between then and now. I am the most excited for this, but since it releases on October 10th, I don’t have that long to wait!
No Man’s Sky
This was a game that surprised a lot of people. It’s being made by 10 people in a studio that has made one game to date (Thomas Was Alone) and looks like a triple A title. It features procedurally generated planets so no two playthroughs will ever be the same (which will make walkthroughs for it a total bitch) and it looks unlike anything else out there. I am super excited for this, and you should be too!
And there you have it, my top 5 games of E3 2014 with a few more for good measure. If you like this (then you should have put a ring on it), then share with your friends and total strangers everywhere. Even though I just made that horribly dated joke, please still do it!
