Yes, it’s another Spider-Man post.

Yes, it’s another rant.

No, it’s not about Superior Spider-Man. We’ve done that one and I already told you it’s a great story.

This time I’m talking about The Amazing Spider-Man movies that Sony are working on. It’s rare for me to feel disheartened about anything Spider-Man but what Sony are doing is leaving me less than excited for what’s to come. So let’s recap what to expect from next year’s sophomore outing.

Way back in February, Columbus Pictures released this synopsis;

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Now, that doesn’t sound too bad, does it? No, not at all. A new big bad and a returning minor character. Sounds pretty good to me!

Well it would! They’ve missed a shit tonne of information in that description. Like this lot;

  1. A new Norman Osborn
  2. A new Mary Jane Watson
  3. A secondary villain in Rhino
  4. Possibly a THIRD villain in Vulture (thought it might just be Adrian Toomes for now)
  5. Yet another super in the form of Black Cat

It’s pretty clear that they’re trying to build their own version of the Sinister Six but It’s like they’ve forgotten that Spider-Man 3 fell apart because they tried to put too much stuff in it.

If all of that doesn’t seem like overkill to you, it’s also looking very likely that the second movie is going to feature The Death Of Gwen Stacey. That’s a big deal.

To make matters worse, they’ve just today announced that what was supposed to be a trilogy is already set to become a quadrilogy with TASM3 set for 2016 and TASM4 for 2018.

This could go very bad.

I’ve got some ideas of what Sony are planning and I think it could be super cool providing they don’t screw up the second film.

I guess only time will tell.

    • Are you kidding? It’s a Spider-Man film, of course I’m going to watch it! I just feel that with 4 films lined up they don’t need to cram 101 villains into the second one.
